Welcome to my Website.
My name
is Joe L. Davis and i am a Master Carpenter,And a Master Furniture Builder.I'm going to tell you a little about myself
before i tell you about my furniture because i believe if you knew about the man that builds the furniture you will respect
the furniture that he builds. Now my father had five brothers and all of them were carpenters and by me being a little boy
raised up around my uncles i learned the trade also.As i grew up i went off to work for the railroad as a troubleshooter.I've
worked all over the United States of America,Canada and Mexico.I retired out of Cailafornia, and i moved back to Alabama,North
Etowah County that's in North Alabama. One hundred and ten miles Northwest of Atlanta and sixty seven miles South of
Chatanooga,Tennessee. That we call Lookout Mountain.here in Alabama i built my home and it was always my dream to do so i built
it myself by myself.after i built my house my dream was to build the furniture in the house and i've done that also.God has
provided me with the wisdom to make that dream come true.
I've had people to come up to me and ask me to build them Heirllooms Furniture
and i've done it.Now when i build my furniture i build it with pride, because that is one thing now days it's hard to come
by and that's pride.people use to have pride in what they did.All of my tools that i use in my shop are premitive tools hand
me downs to my father from his brothers
and i inheritied all the tools from my father.i have some tools that is ran by electricity, and alot of tools that is
use by hand.Like they use fifty and sixty years ago, before the stealsaws were invented. Now the lumber that i use to build
my furniture is air dried.Because it is cut right here in North Etowah County. The Cherry,Black Walnut,Redoak,Whiteoak,
Pecan,Pine, and the Popular.i don't buy lumber from Lowes or Homedepot. For one thing the lumber would be to high for me
to sell the items that i sell.Everything that i build is strictly hand
made. And if i'm not satisfied with it,it won't be sold, because i have pride in my work. Now to air dry a peice of lumber
that is to be used to build furniture it takes about a year to a year and a half to air dry, because of the water contents
in the wood. With the humidity in the area that i live in it has to be at least 6% moisture contents.it tkes about a year for
the air and the sun to tisipate the moisture out of that wood.I have wood setting up in my shop and around my shop that is
air drying right now, that has been air drying over a year. The reason that it has to air dry to a ceratin amount of moisture
which is about 6% because if it doe'snt you'll have whopped and spilt wood.I'm going to start with a sofa table that
i built.
